A message to let you all know that Lara and Phil and family are all safe.  Our property and business ‘Bush Organics Kangaroo Island’ has sustained significant damage from the fire before Christmas.  Our 400 acres of high conservation heritage listed bushland has been devastated By the first fires and then hit for the second time on the 3rd of January.

The property is currently under immediate threat.  The dwellings have been spared for now, but we have lost some hives, workshop, tools, beekeeping equipment, tanks, orchard area, pumps and irrigation systems.  “Our family feels so lucky to have something left that we can move forward with for the time being, at the moment we have all our 8 neighbours and some remnant native veg and farms remain.  We are all working hard to defend our community, farms, infrastructure and most importantly our natural heritage as some of the last remain refuge for wildlife and threatened species down the west end.

We have launched a Go Fund Me to raise money for the immediate requirements to assist our NW community on the island:

3 x Farm fighting fire units

Tanks
Irrigation
Gutters
Pumps
Safety equipment
Protective gear

We will also be trading this Saturday at Willunga Farmers Market, so please support us and be mindful that we are exhausted and have been through intense trauma over the past couple of weeks.  Please if you see us give us love and keep an eye on our website and socials for the full story.  Lara and Phil will be taking some much needed donations to the Base Camp at the north west of Kangaroo Island for farm units and volunteer crews working in her area of the Island when they go back to join them when safe.

Many of these farmers have lost property themselves, and our two friends  are working around the clock to save their neighbours.

So, what is needed?

Snack food - cakes, slices
Work wear - including socks

Lara and Phil will be taking donations directly to the base camp on Saturday after the market - of course she will have limited capacity / space in her vehicle.  If you would like to donate food or clothing please register with Willunga Farmers Market by emailing manager@willungafarmersmarket.com.au - you will then be provided with packaging instructions and more information.

Please see our previous blog post for other ways that you can contribute.

We have been overwhelmed by your support, generosity and kindness during this difficult time.
